Ep 10 Steven Vrolijk and iGaming.com CEO Prof. Dr. Andreas Ditsche podcast iGaming website

Imagine exposing illegal gambling websites, only to have industry insiders warn you to watch your back. That’s exactly what happened to legal expert Steven Vrolijk after publishing reports naming shady gambling sites. In our latest podcast short, Vrolijk shares his experiences with iGaming CEO, Prof. Dr. Andreas Ditsche.

In this short video, you’ll hear a real-life account of how whistleblowing on wrongdoing can provoke unexpected threats. Steven’s story sheds light on how some operators ignore laws and fines, yet fear one thing above all: the anger of cheated players.

Unmasking the Dark Side of iGaming

Steven Vrolijk is a Managing Partner of XY Legal Solutions and a Master of Laws. He is also the founder of Quality Mark Responsible Affiliates – QMRA, of which iGaming.com is a member. He advocates for trustworthy and responsible affiliate marketing.

In his conversation with our CEO, Vrolijk touched upon the dark side of the iGaming industry. He recalls how he was warned about naming illegal gambling sites. This experience highlights the risks to whistleblowers when exposing unethical activities within the industry.

He noted that such organizations do not seem afraid of legal repercussions. They are unlikely to receive jail sentences, and they generally ignore fines. However, they fear the players whom they deceive on their sites. Vrolijk argues that this clearly indicates that they should operate legally.

“They’re not really afraid of the authorities… they’re actually afraid of players… that alone should be a very good reason to just work within the boundaries of the law.”
